Good morning! My school leadership team is working on a school improvement plan (SIP) which is required by our county. They were stymied in finding articles about best practices for teaching social studies (an area here that needs improvement according to test scores). It finally dawned on them to ask me after spending nearly 3 hours of fruitless searching... Since the ball is now in my court I want to WOW them with articles (less than 4 years old) showing that collaboration between teachers of social studies and the teacher librarian is one of the most effective ways of bringing up test scores. I am looking for articles that provide research to back the claim as well as those that highlight hands-on projects, a research component, and use of multi-media by students to help them move from hearing/reading to doing/learning. If anyone can put their hands on such things quickly, please respond to me off list and I will post a hit.
