Hi all, I am a 6th grade teacher in a LMS program. AR is B-I-G at my school. Each team's points are posted at least once a month. [I am the only 2 person team in the building with the overflow of 6th grade students. Everyone else has 4 person teams so I have 52 students compared with teams of 90 - 100.] This year, my students are always at least 1000 points below every other team. I have loads of incentives. For example, if students read at least 4 VA Readers Choice books, I will give them a pizza party. [ I bought several copies of each of the books. I have an extensive library of my grown children's books in the class. They go to the school library.] Once they get 10 points, I put up a huge balloon in the hall with gold seals with the point numbers in multiples of 10. I give a lollipop or Jolly Rancher for each test passed. Students receive a 50 cent piece for 50 points. I gave a prize in September to the first person in each class who received 10 points. I am ready to give up! No other teacher does this, yet they have over 2000 points. We have SSR schoolwide each day. They are supposed to read for 10 minutes in elective classes. They are supposed to read for 20 minutes each night for homework. H E L P! Does anyone have any ideas that will get my student to read? Please respond to my email address below & I will post a hit if there is interest.
