I will be doing a similar unit, and will use the wireless laptops for Internet
access. If you are looking for something like BrainPop I suppose you will have
computer access for your students.

I will be using www.enchantedlearning.com The Little Explorers dictionary is
very easy for young students to use. Choose Little Explorers, the letter H,
Habitat is the first listing. Once at the Habitat entry you have a table with a
variety of habitats listed. A quick activity would have students discovering the
types of animals in a specific habitat. If they work in pairs they could search
and record. The pair can trade jobs with each habitat and record the animals found
in each habitat. A cooperative pair might be able to search 5-6 habitats in 10 min.

I use enchanged learning all the time. It is a K-8 type of website. There are
many great, quick activities. The site is free with ads, but you can subscribe for
a low fee and have access without ads and printer friendly versions of thousands of
handouts.

I am going to be supplementing a 2nd grade unit on habitats. Since I only
have them for 30 minutes every 3 days (15 of those minutes is spent on
checking out books) I need something quick and easy. Using either the
SmartBoard or the laptop cart, I'm looking for a website like Brain POP
that is free. Any suggestions?
I have only recently subscribed to this list and have learned so much.
Thank you to everyone who lists the responses. And thank you for your
help today.
