This story reminded me of a time when I was a hero! Our students are
able to save to the file server directly and not keep it locally on the
computer. Even still one group of Honors English kids some how managed
to delete their entire 50 slide power point presentation. We tried
EVERYTHING to find it or get it back but couldn't. Finally I called one
of the tech guys who informed me that although he couldn't retrieve the
most current one they had worked on, he could get the last one they
saved. Needless to say they thought we were both WIZARDS! We both got
thank you notes, which as most of you know are the best overtime pay you
will ever receive.

What a day of technology screw-ups...I have to share this, though.

With two research classes in the library this morning, our airport
decided to hiccup while students had accessed their network files.
This
hiccup caused wholesale corruption of files: 30 students facing the
loss
of their Lang. Arts papers in final draft form. Another class in the
Computer Lab was having trouble accessing one of the most popular
databases, etc. etc. As we were scrambling to help everyone, one
junior
shook her head and remarked, "Man. You guys need to know so much just
to
work in here." Gotta love it. (I wish her mother were still on the
board!) Anyways, it's time to go home...
