Anne McCaffrey has written a series ( one of several) on the Dragonriders of Pern - a weyr was the homestead ( base) of a group of dragonriders and their dragons. Great stories. Some titles: Dragonriders of Pern: First Fall Dragondrums Dragonflight Dragonquest and many more.
