Although there were movies and parties throughout the school and a schoolwide musical program performed 3 different times last week, I operated with "I will teach them if they come". I have a set of Christmas trivia questions collected over the years--I think the original ones came from a Family Circle or Women's Day magazine. There is a tic tac toe board drawn off with masking tape on the story pit floor. Girls on one side, boys on another. Allow each side to choose a spokesperson and an x and o placer. These jobs will rotate throughout the group. Questions are secular and religious. There is so much about Christmas we assume they know that they don't. Lots of fun, only one person speaking at a time, etc, etc. Quite a few of my children thought the national Christmas tree was in New York City, the red flower commonly used at Christmas was a rose.... and did you know Mary rode to Bethlehem on a camel? (must have been quite uncomfortable) We got out on the 16th and go back for a staff development day on Jan. 3rd with students returning on the 4th. New carpeting being installed in the libary over the holidays! Hooray!
