One of my high school teachers is on the textbook adoption committee for a new course called Freshman Honors. She needs to do some research on current approaches to teaching an advanced 9th grade reading and writing course. They are trying to decide on what novels should be read. They believe they need some classical lit, are not sure if Great Expectations is the best choice. Do any of you currently have a freshman honors course in your school? Do you know of any research or current professional material on current approaches to teaching this? Do you have opinions about what literature to include? Thanks in advance. Marcia L.
