Thanks to all who responded to my questions about team
interviews! Here are the responses:

Questions was:

Currently my friend/colleague Cheryl and I are
classroom teachers with one more class to go to
become media specialists. We would love to get jobs
for the next school year. What we would love even
more is if we could work together in the same library.
We have been teammates for the past 5 years and work
so well together. We have different strengths and
even though we would both be "newbies", we think we
would do a FANTASTIC job together.

 My questions are:
 1. Have you ever heard of people doing this?
 2. Do you have any ideas for marketing ourselves as
a team?
 3. Do you think we are crazy for trying?
Thanks for your input!!

______________

You might have a chance of doing this in a high
school. There is often a greater need for two media
specialists at that level. Good luck!
______________
I think it's great for you to want to stay together --
however, I think that most school districts are under
budget constraints and only fill positions as they
open. For example, I am the only librarian in a h.s.
with 2,000 students, but I know of a high school in
another town that has 2 librarians for 2,400 students.
The chances are pretty slim that both positions would
ever open up at the same time, though.

Good luck, it's worth pursuing but keep an open mind.

Do you even have any schools where both lms are
leaving? And would the principal want 2 new folks at
the same time? I can see this coming about,
but maybe not your first year out. You might put
together a package describing all your strengths and
if an opportunity comes about, be ready to
sell yourselves!!!
I hope it will work out for you. You'll love the job.
__________

Yes, you're probably crazy, but GO FOR IT!!!!

However, you should note that you are limiting
yourselves to the very
large districts, and probably to high schools only.

___________
Congrats and good luck! One of the reasons I became a
librarian is because of great team teaching
experiences! This is my first year as a librarian and
I can say that having a great team (in this case me
and the library aide) makes ALL the difference!
______________
I have unfortunately never heard of this. Consider if
a job-share would work for you. 2 problems, though:
you'd have to be part time and you wouldn't be working
at the same time.
_____________
Ladies: Try GA for jobs because the high schools
frequently hire 2
people at a time and their should be a bunch of
vacancies this year. Go to
the Department of Ed web site www.doe.k12.ga.us and
follow the links to
library media and the GA Library Media Association.

I have friends who job shared for years while each had
young children
at home. Due to a divorce, one of the pair needed to
go full-time, and
so broke up the partnership. However, the remaining
gal found someone
else willing to work 2&1/2 days a week. (They overlap
on Wednesdays in
order to stay on the same page.) In today's financial
climate, I would
be inclined to think it difficult to find a school
with 2 vacant
full-time positions, however, that need not preclude
trying. Think of the
innovative resume you could write.
______________
Don't look in Washington State unless you both want
part time work -- mostlibrarians at secondary (MS &
HS) have one and only one librarian no matter
the population!

No, you are not crazy for trying. remember Winston
Churchhill said never never never give up. My thinking
is that while some employeers might
shy away from letting two friends work together, there
may be somebody out there willing to give it a try.
You probably will need to interview in
large high school libraries where they have more than
one professional on staff. Larger school systems may
be your best bet as I see it.
