I've posted this before but will repeat when I have done... I finally gave
up on the printers as the cost was becoming huge. The students also had the
nasty habit of hitting the Print button 5-6 times...ah for the virtue of
Patience.

We also don't have the money for the paper and the toner.... So,

I removed all printers from the library - posted signs - and now students
must put everything they wish to print in Word format (RTF) on a disk and
submit it to the circulation desk. I've had one complaint "this is stupid"
from a student this year. My reply - "So, don't print."

It works beautifully - and the printing has gone way down.. Surprise!
Surprise! they are now printing at home. I keep extra disks at the desk for
students who "forgot mine" - and require some collateral when they use it -
I lost every disk the first week - but no more.
