When I spoke to our Board of Trustees my first month here I concentrated on my passion for libraries and my philosophy of library service. One member said he was prepared to bored before the presentation and didn't realize libraries were so exciting.. So, that approach worked for him at least. I spoke about the passion for learning and my belief that the library is the healing place of the soul (was the inscription over the ancient library of Thebes) - that the materials on the shelves can scream out their philosophies at the reader, that we could rebuild civilization with the contents of one good library. Obviously, I cannot condense services, resources, collaborating, teaching etc. into 15 minutes?
