It has been my experience that the more the kids use the Internet only for assignments the more likely they are to cut and paste directly. They alsmost can't help it unless a teacher requires actual note cards (as one of our teachers does for everything regardless of source). They ignore that fact that they still have toe READ the material to verify its relevance even if it comes from an approved or provided web site. It's not unlike the photocopy and then highlight sydrome that abounds in places where they don't have to pay for copies. They think a highlight page constitutes "taking notes." In neither case are many brain cells being engaged, prior knowledge used or new knowledge constructed for those students. :-( Maureen S.
