I have an 8th grade boy in my school who has only been in the U.S. for a few years (he was born in Mozambique), and he reads at about a 5th-grade level. His father would like some suggestions for good "boy" books that would be appropriate for his son. He wants to start by reading them to his son, and then giving them to his son to finish reading on his own. I'm worried that some of the books I'm familiar with, such as Hatchet, Holes and Maniac Magee might be too advanced a reading level for this student to read on his own. Since my school is Grades 7-8, I don't have a great handle on 5th-grade reading level "boy" fiction books. I'd be grateful for any suggestions I can pass on to his parent. ===== David Bilmes, LMS Schaghticoke Middle School New Milford, CT bilmesd@new-milford.k12.ct.us dudu4tigers@snet.net "Wars never hurt anybody except the people who die."
