The supplemental funding being voted on my the Assembly today is needed to give us statewide leverage for the NOVEL databases as well as many other important programs. The Senate will vote tomorrow. It only took seconds to get the Albany office number for my senator using vote-smart.org. Your phone call today is very, very important for our students! ASSEMBLY TO VOTE ON SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET FOR LIBRARY AID. CONTACT SENATORS ***NOW*** Dear Library Colleagues and Supporters: By the end of the year, it looked like the 2004/2005 budget was done, and the library aid was not restored. But it’s not over ‘til it’s over… On Friday we learned that today, Monday, January 10, the Assembly will vote on (and hopefully pass) a Supplemental Budget. Library aid will be included in this thanks to the determination of Assemblywoman Sandy Galef – and to all your advocacy efforts. If the Assembly passes this AS EXPECTED, then the Senate MUST act BEFORE the Governor presents his 2005/2006 budget on January 18. THEREFORE, YOU must act ___now___, please! Call or fax your Senator in his/her Albany Office and ask him or her to pass the Supplemental Budget. To locate contact information for your Senator, go to http://www.vote-smart.org/ and enter your zip code. Alternatively, you can use LOBBYNet on the NYLA website (http://www.nyla.org) to send a fax. [Note: We are experiencing some problems with the software for LOBBYNet, so if you cannot get through now, and cannot send a fax directly, please try LOBBYNet later today.] Forward this message to appropriate listservs, to colleagues, friends, relatives, library patrons. Events of this past year have greatly increased the visibility of libraries and library systems. We have friends in both the Assembly and the Senate. Let them know we are counting on them. Thank you!
