I'm wondering why folks are asking permission at all. I would argue that
this is a fair use.

I actually emailed them asking about permission for exactly that
purpose
(you can see my request below), as "giving it to colleagues" didn't
seem
to me to fit into what their own online definition of educational uses
was. But they wrote back saying, and I quote: "permission is fine.
This
still applies to your use also".
You could email them a permission request and see what they say?
Perhaps
if several of us point out that their wording doesn't imply "pass
around
to teachers", they might alter it... (sorry, I don't have their
original
email address now, but I know I found it on the For Better or for
Worse
website under "permissions")

my request to them at :
"Hello!
I am a teacher-librarian in a high school in Toronto Canada.
I am most interested in the "for Better or for Worse" series of strips
from Tuesday Dec. 7 04, through to today, and perhaps a couple of more
days if the story line continues. They absolutely put across the ideas
we are trying to teach our kids in the library. I would like to
reprint
them and pass them to our TEACHERS in our school, so I can show them
what we can help them with in the library, OR perhaps just to post in
the library for the classes that come down. I am seeking permission
for
this use. I am not a classroom teacher per se, so cannot just show
them
to one class; I am a teacher-librarian who works with all teachers in
the school and all classes."

(I have quoted the relevant part of their permission to me above; I
don't want to copy their whole email here as a further copyright issue
;-)

Dear LM_NETTERS,

Remember the For Better or For Worse comic series from December 7-11
pertaining to research that one of you highlighted for us? I thought
it
was a great
opportunity for highlighting the need for teaching information
literacy,
so I
clipped the five strips from my local newspaper, taped them together
and
photocopied to give my faculty and six fellow media specialists. One
of
my media
specialist colleagues was concerned about this use being a copyright
infringement. Is she right?

Thanks for your expertise and wisdom,
