Just an interesting note to add to the discussion we had earlier last week about the university professor's article about students "knowing how to do research" with Google and without the librarian's assistance.... I was filling out a university recommendation form for student who will be entering college next fall, and on the application (which could have been filled out by ANYONE on campus, including teachers, administrators, work supervisors, etc.), the form asked these two questions--- ************************************************************ The applicant's ability to seek, find, and use learning resources: __extremely well ___very well ___moderately well ___not well The applicant demonstrates good problem-solving skills, follows through, and completes tasks. __ extremely well __ very well ___ moderately well ___not well *************************************************** I thought it was interesting that (in this case) a librarian should be providing the university with information about how a student locates and uses information, and if the student has good problem-solving skills, etc. (Could it be that many "others" who fill out these applicatons are offering "YES" to these questions when in reality, the answer might be NO ??? ~Shonda Brisco Trinity Valley MS / US Librarian Fort Worth, TX briscos@trinityvalleyschool.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
