Colleagues...
My district is experiencing negative fallout as a result of the
controversy over The Giver in a neighboring district. Our district
administration decided to stop teaching the novel in 7th and 8th
grades effective immediately as a pre-emptive strike against possible
challenges. (Can anyone say censorship?) The problem... one teacher
was to start the unit this week! She is looking for another novel to
teach that is about the same difficulty and length, with some meat to
it. She's also wanting a fairly current copyright date. Please send
all recommendations to me so I can pass them along to my teacher. I
spoke highly of all of you, so don't let me down!
