I live in the same town that I work in. I grew up here, too. I know some of
our board members because I went to high school with them, and I have
campaigned - on my own time - for a few of them. After taking a few wrong
turns I have been warned about what is Proper and what is Improper conduct
between an employee and a board member. (don't use a school account to pass
along "please vote for me" literature, and don't do it during school time -
even if it is your lunch time!!)

I would NEVER give a basket to my school board. It would not be appropriate
in my opinion, no matter your intentions.

You may want to ask your union rep before you go too far.
