I was surprised to read that some young adults prefer
hardback books to paperbacks. At our high school, students
overwhelmingly prefer paperbacks, at least when we're
talking about popular fiction. For non-fiction books,
students haven't indicated a preference one way or the
other. Of course, I prefer buying classics or oft-used non-
fiction books in hardback, but cost-wise, there's a definite
advantage in buying "popular fiction" in paperback. Also,
it's surprising how long these little books can last when
covered in "contact" paper.
