I was surprised to read that some young adults prefer hardback books to paperbacks. At our high school, students overwhelmingly prefer paperbacks, at least when we're talking about popular fiction. For non-fiction books, students haven't indicated a preference one way or the other. Of course, I prefer buying classics or oft-used non- fiction books in hardback, but cost-wise, there's a definite advantage in buying "popular fiction" in paperback. Also, it's surprising how long these little books can last when covered in "contact" paper.
