Greetings All,

In regards to recent posts requesting books that promote positive character
traits, let me offer the following resources (in no particular order).

Carolyn and John Lima's _A to Zoo: Subject Access to Children's Picture
Books_ (6th edition), Libraries Unlimited, 2001:
Standard reference tool for finding picture books on all kinds of
topics. (I found subject entries for perseverance, responsibility,
kindness, and honesty.)

Sharron L. McElmeel's _Character Education: A Book Guide for Teachers,
Librarieans, and Parents_, Libraries Unlimited/Teacher Idea Press, 2002:
Table of Contents: Caring, Confidence, Courage, Curiosity, Flexibility,
Friendship, Goal Setting, Humility, Humor, Initiative, Integrity, Patience,
Perseverance, Positive Attitude, Problem Solving, Self-Discipline, Teamwork.

Diane Findlay's _Characters with Character: Using Children's Literature in
Character Education_, Alleyside Press, 2001:
Table of Contents: Responsibility, Respect, Caring, Honesty, Perseverance,
Courage, Self-Discipline, Fairness, Friendship, Citizenship.

Claire Gatrell Stephens' _Picture This! Using Picture Story books for
Character Education in the Classroom_, Libraries Unlimited, 2004:
Table of Contents: Citizenship and Patriotism, Courage, Friendship,
Honesty, Perseverance and Patience, Respect for Self and Others,
Responsibility and Commitment, Self-Control, Sharing.

These last three include ideas for teaching activities and reproducible
worksheets/puzzles. I'm sure there are other such books out there
too. These are just ones we happen to have.

Best wishes,
