Many thanks for the quick response. My friend had her interview yesterday.
I'll let you know how she did. There were a few more, but I lost them when
copying. I am sorry. Here is the hit:

How about the Joey Pigza books by Gantos?  Another one that would be
good is "Sparks"   I don't remember the author, but it is about a spec.
ed. student who is movedinto a regular classroom and the social, as well
as, academic repurcussions of such a move.  My grade 5 spec ed teacher
often uses it as a read aloud.

Molly Clark

Also look at:
A. Horowitz's Alex Ryder series,
McCormick's Cut,
Frank's Friction and  America,
Naylor's Alice series,  and Shiloh series (she also has some good scary
books like Nixon)
Laren McDaniel,
Judy Blume ( I'll mention something like ' you  know about Fudge, she
also has many books for 7th and 8th graders')
Zindel and Sleator's horror books,
Royal Diary and Dear America Series,
Burach's Skeleton Man,
Gaiman's Coraline,
Lawrence's Toilet of Doom,
Coville's Alien series (my teacher is and I'm a sixth grade),
Cooper's Boggart,
Matt Christopher's sports books (there are three series with differnt
levels, I booktalk the longest ones, and leave copies of the others on
the tables),
Yolen's Rock and Troll novel,
Voight's Homecoming series (and Orfee),
some of Tamora Pierce,
Paulsen's White Fox.
Some of Goobie,
some of Orca Soundings series (there is also another series from Orca to
look at)

Robert Eiffert

Soup by Peck was a huge hit with my lower readers.
Thanks again,
