Hi folks, I would definitely second Mary's recommendation to read Kohn's book, especially in light of "rewarding" students for reading. One of the assertions, backed by research, Kohn makes is that rewards DISCOURAGE desired behaviors. If interested, take a look at my old column "Creating Fat Kids Who Don't Like to Read" at http://www.doug-johnson.com/dougwri/fat.html All the very best and thanks, Mary, for reminding us all of this book.
