I never thought that the song was about having the "right" things, in fact it
seems to reflect a simpler time. Those are the things that were popular at the
time. I can see my children growing up in those 70's days when I here the song. (
and the stuff in Stretch Armstrong was purple and left stains!-- I have four boys,
ask me how I know) It was what it was and the song writer seems to be longing for
the times when getting a microwave ( or any new technology) was a big deal , when
baseball cards came free in bubble gum and when we mourned celebrities not our
innocent next door neighbors who were just going about their daily business.

I thought the original question was for a way to find a song to tie in with some
research tools and strategies for a upper elementary class. This was just a
suggestion for one that seemed age appropriate. If it works fine if it doesn't
work that's ok too. Guess that's why they write more than one song or one book.
There are just too many not good things going on in the world and in my own life to
not take a moment or two to remember the good old days, the way I wasliving them. (
or at least the way I think I was)
