Hello! A few weeks ago I posted the following message (Abbreviated from original) askig for your collective thoughts. Several people asked for a HIT and I apologize for the delay. MY ORIGINAL POST: As the year winds down and I see many great books that have not moved all year, I am considering ways to get them into the kids' hands. Every so often a kid will stumble onto something that absolutely delights him and I'll hear, "I never knew you had books like this!" The thing is, it doesn't happen often and I think it's partly a result of my schedule. It takes time to find a treasure and one kid's treasue is another kid's trash, so to speak. I am on a fixed schedule with 40 minute classes in grades 3-5. I leave the last 10-15 minutes for 'book time.' I am considering having one period a month (or every five weeks or such) that is set aside for quiet reading and browsing. All we would do is read or browse the shelves in a more leisurely manner. I will of course circulate and make suggestions, book talk with individuals who are having trouble finding something. Basically, the overwhelming response was positive and I think I'll try it next year. I do have the individual responses if anyone wants them, but they were so similar that I didn't think it necessary to post to the entire list. Thank you for all of your help and support this year. They are subversive. You think they're just sitting there at the desk, all quiet and everything. They're like plotting the revolution, man. I wouldn't mess with them."
