A parent asked me today if I recognized this book. She describes it as a picture book format with a poor family that settles on land with very fertile soil. It is so rich that if you spit a watermelon seed on the ground it would sprout immediately into a watermelon bearing plant. There is an old man in a jalopy that is trying to get them off the land. They use the watermelons to foil the old man. It would be circa late 1960's or early 1970's, she was born in 1966. She loved the story as a kid and has been wanting to find another copy for her kids. Sound familiar to anyone?
