Several factors go into circulation statistics that I had not accounted for. The main one is whether or not the library uses a reading program such as AR or Reading Counts. Another is how long students can have materials and the third is what materials are included in the statistics. I see now why there is no national standard as it would be very difficult to work through the data. At any rate, here are some ballpark figures that may help you. I had fifteen libraries present their data. Enrollment ranged from 250 to 1700, with a median of 760 students and an average of 877. Of the 15 schools, 8 had an enrollment of 1000 or less, 1 was a private school, and 2 were a jr./sr. high combo. Circulation was figured per student and had a range of 3.2 to 40, with a median of 9.2. The average circulation was 12.8 items per student. Nine of the 15 schools circulated fewer than 10 items per student, while 5 circulated 15 or more items per student. Circulation statistics of 15 or higher were produced exclusively by schools with reading programs. Please email me directly with questions as I will be unsubscribing from LM_Net for the summer.
