For those of you who also fell in love with Civil War expert Shelby
Foote, introduced to most by Ken Burns of PBS Civil War video fame,
the sad news today of Mr. Foote's death, at age 88.

Six novels and a three book 3,000 page trilogy on the Civil War,
which took 20 years to write.  [Was his next book to be 3,000 Other
Things to Talk About When Your Editor Calls?]  His The Civil War: A
Narrative was No. 15 on the the Modern Library's "list of the
century's 100 best English-language works of nonfiction." Quite the
honor!

I so appreciated the depth of understanding  Mr. Foote brought to us
about that not so civil of Civil wars, where brother fought against
brother.

I have sat here for a few moments thinking about the pleasure
authoring a biography on Mr. Foote could bring and on the joy he will
now have to read, like the rest of us, all the books he never got to
finish!

Thank you Shelby Foote and thank you Ken Burns for changing our lives
for the better !!! [Thank you Librarians for doing that every day! :)
