As I stated previously, my series books are in wooden bookracks and/or spinners on
the top of bookcases at eye level for many of our older students. I do not indicate
the placement in the catalog. Rather I find that fans know exactly where to find
their books. They show their friends. Children unfamiliar with the series can
browse the bookracks.

Students looking for Arms and Armor in the Eyewitness Series knows right where to
search. A student looking for Book #5 in the Series of Unfortunate Events doesn't
have to check the computer, decide whether the books he's looking for is Paperback
or hardcover and then go to wither the paperback or hardcover sections. In some
cases the book is "in" according to the catalog but in fact in someone's hand while
they look for other books. The student knows right away that if the book is not on
the series rack, it is not available.

Some series have multiple authors (Mary-Kate & Ashley, American Girl, Pokemon,
Secret of Droom, ect.). It is so easy for the fans of those series to find out what
is in and what is out.

I have students who know exactly where the the dinosaur books without having to
check the catalog. I also have syudents who knpw where the series books are located
without having to check the catalog. I think that these are good things.
