As of March 1, 2005, 34 books have been nominated for Popular Paperbacks for
Young Adults. New nominations are posted on the first of each month
throughout the year.

For information about Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults including policies
and procedures and the complete list of nominations, please visit the YALSA
PPYA website at: www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists/poppaper

Nominations from the field are encouraged. Books must fit the category
requirements, be available in paperback in 2005, and cannot have appeared on
PPYA lists during the last five years to be eligible for PPYA.

Books That Don’t Make You Blush

Alcott, Louisa May. An Old-Fashioned Girl. 1996. Penguin. $5.99.

This turn-of-the-century American novel is about Polly, a poor farm girl
(14-adulthood), who visits her wealthy cousin and struggles to be a good
girl despite many wicked temptations. Themes of friendship, romance and
sacrifice.

Bauer, Joan. Backwater. 2000. Putnam. $6.99. 0-698-11865-0.
Ivy wants to escape the family tradition of becoming a lawyer, and in the
process reunites with an estranged aunt and faces a treacherous blizzard.

Cappo, Nan Willard. Cheating Lessons. 2003. Simon Pulse. $4.99.
0-689-86018-8.
Bernadette's smart.  She's focused on her studies, she's a champion debator,
and she has a great memory.  To top it off, she's been named to her school's
quiz bowl team.  But all her intelligence isn't much help when she finds out
her teacher has cheated to get the team into the Classics Bowl.  What if
honesty isn't the best policy?
