I have an English teacher who is working with me on designing a research
paper for her 11th grade English class. This teacher likes to take this
project is steps beginning with everyone reading, taking notes on, writing
on and adding the bibliography the same article. We have done this in the
past with an article on discrimination/persecution with the student going
on to research a particular group and indicating whether or not they met
the "test" of discrimination.

She would like to change the paper this year to one where students pick an
issue, one with several "sides", research the different points of view,
then select a postion and defend it. We are looking for an article which
addresses confronting an issue, looking at the points of view, and choosing
their point of view after looking at the facts..

I searched some of our online databases, will try more tomorrow. I also
looked at several of the "issues" books such as Opposing Viewpoints and
Taking Sides. So far, nothing has come up. One problem is the search terms,
for example "choosing sides" gets lots of hits for articles on the recent
elections. So I am asking the experts for help.

So I am turning to the experts. Does anyone know of or have an article that
would fit the bill. Any ideas for search terms that might produce what we
are looking for? Again, we are looking for an article which addresses
confronting an issue, looking at the points of view, and choosing their
point of view after looking at the facts..
