We have Newsbank at our school and I recommend it. This is an announcement they
sent out this week that I thought might interest some of you who don't have it, but
would like to see how it works.

NewsBank is pleased to announce free access during Newspapers in Education week
March 7 – 11 to

*TCR Connections and Connections for Kids – Over 1500 activity plans based on and
correlated to State Education Standards to help students in all grade levels read
strategically and increase their critical thinking skills. Each activity plan
provides newspaper articles on all reading levels to inform and instruct students
on important real world topics.

*America’s Newspapers – A collection of over 600 full-text U.S. newspapers
including The New York Times, Washington Post, and many other prominent titles as
well as many small local and regional ones. All titles are easily accessible
through an intuitive map interface.

Do your students need articles about
*Current events
*Social issues
*Hot topics
*Science
*Health
*History
*Sports
*The Arts
*and other topics?

Articles on all these areas and others can be found in newspapers.

Would your teachers like to have activity plans to support their curriculum?

NewsBank brings together newspaper articles with activity plans for all subject
areas to provide instructional materials suitable for classroom and library use.

Newspapers are a valuable resource for your students’ independent research and for
your teachers’ classroom instruction. They provide a current and historical record
of issues and events of importance to your students and a tool for teachers to use
in planning their lessons.

To arrange for these collections to be available in your school during NIE week,
please respond to this message with the following information: *School name
*City/State *Your Name/Position *Phone number *E-mail

Or, you may call 1-800-762-8182 to request your free access.
