The real reason to use the reviews of readers with expertise in the field is to be able to see a range of opinion, and more importantly, perspective on a particular work. It would be difficult to be remote and objective while in a book there is some resonance with. I don't think I have all the expertise needed to decide which books might be most appealing to war novel fans, I could easily miss an inaccuracy in a historical novel, I can't imagine why some fantasy are popular or received glowing reviews. That said, of course it is important to be widely read in the range of materials in our collections. -- Robert Eiffert, Librarian Pacific MS Vancouver, WA pac.egreen.wednet.edu/library beiffert.net furl.net/members/reiffert bloglines.com/blog/reiffert -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
