Hello! I want to thank everyone for their response to the Texas certification issue. I am the student that Kim mentioned (I'm using her e-mail to write this). An FYI for further clarification. I don't have any other classroom or teaching experience besides my student teaching. I did speak to different people at TEA just to see if they would say anything different. I was told that I could get certified two ways: I had to have been a school librarian for three years; I had to have two years in a school classroom. I was told that I could get certified if I got a job in a school library in Texas for three years, as long as a school district is willing to hire an uncertified librarian. There are only four states that Texas allows reciprocity for; Illinois is not one of those states. I have also read everything on Texas education and certification web sites to try to understand their certification process. It appears to me that there has been some controversy about the school librarian certification requirements. I still welcome any other input from you.
