This sounds like a version of "The Three Sillies" by Joseph Jacobs. http://www.authorama.com/english-fairy-tales-4.html Paul Galdone and Steven Kellogg have picture book versions of the story and Anne Rockwell includes a version in her "The Three Sillies and 10 Other Stories to Read Aloud" (HarperTrophy 1986). Have any of you heard of it? She said she did something with this in elementary school. She summarized it like this: There was a man who had a very silly daughter. She was always crying because she was afraid that the axe hanging above the stairs would kill her daughter, but she didn't even have a daughter. This man wanted to find 3 things sillier than his daughter, and whoever was sillier than her could marry her. One of the silly things was guys fishing for the moon (its reflection) in the water. Any ideas? Aimee Allison aallison@cusd220.org Aimee Allison Library/Media Specialist Barrington High School 616 W.
