When I lived in Illinois, the high school my students
funneled into had virtually NO overdue book problem.
The librarian there told me that they were locked out
of the computers if they had a book so much as a day
late and were unable to log on to the school network.
It was a lot of work when she started, but it didn't
take long for the kids to learn to get things in on
time and I got to tell my 8th graders all year they
needed to get used to getting materials in when they
were due.
