you know I don't have the answer to any of this -- but we sure can make some
enemies of parents, students, etc. in the name of the copyright law --

now i am not saying it is ok to make copies, etc. and to ignore the copyright law
but being the copyright police sure doesn't win us any friends or supporters

I myself have played the copyright police game - and it just makes working with
teachers, parents, etc. so difficult --
what parent doesn't want a video of their child doing something in a play, etc. and
here we come saying no we can't make a copy and six other paretns who taped it -
run home and make copies for them -- or the principal says make copies for parents
--

or we know we are not supposed to show movies on a bus trip for entertainment --
yet the bus companies encourage kids to bring videos to watch on trips --

I myself am a great believer in the copyright law -- but sometimes it can be darn
frustrating to always be the copyright bad guy --

I think this was discussed recently but I can't find it in the archives. I
think that is was stated that it is against copyright laws to make copies of
student performance videos for parents. The one in question was a program
for Black History Month and there was copyrighted music performed by students
and also one group danced to music. Is it correct that making a copy of the
video for parents would violate copyright laws? I need this info ASAP.... a
parent is asking for a copy and will probably contact me tomorrow.
Thanks!
