Hi all, I would like to get your feedback on how you run your summer reading programs for high school. In the past, apparently, we have had students read books from a list (probably comprised mostly of classic lit), and then be accountable in some way once school starts. Last year they had an essay due on the books they read. Previous to that, they had to take a test on the first day of school. Since I am the new librarian here, I am thinking this is a great opportunity for students to read fun YA books, and maybe for me to get more involved with students on a less academic level. My questions are: What do students read for your summer program? How many books are they supposed to read? How are they made accountable for how they read? Do you do much PR for the summer reading program, and what kind? Any help you can give would be great! Thanks!
