I guess I'm pretty lucky. We have 2,430 energetic futures of America.
When library books become a month overdue, [we have a "just bring it
back" policy, no fines; and numerous book drops around campus so they
don't have to face the library staff] I upload the culprits to the
school's AS400 and then the student's record is tagged as a library
owe {editorial, usually those students with library tags also owe a
significant amount for textbooks, art course fees, sports' uniforms,
etc.}. Juniors and seniors stand to lose their privileges, such as
parking spaces, late in, early out, junior/senior lounge and the
ability to purchase tickets to Homecoming, Coronation Ball, Junior
and Senior Proms, etc. We have an influx of books the last week of
ticket sales--sometimes by those students who vowed they've not
checked that book out and don't understand why they keep getting
notices every week in homeroom. Hmmmmm. Interesting isn't it?
And if all those other losses don't get them, usually the inability
to march in graduation will, as well as withholding transcripts. The
books or checkbooks come out then, if not before. We almost always
get our books, sometimes we just have to be patient.
Have a groovy week--"where have all the hippies gone?" Katherine A.
