We have just begun using web based AR and it is working out fine right now. Only been 2 weeks though. I hope we do not have many down times. A. If things have changed please let us all know. I saw your question about AR on the Web and thought I'd share my experience with you. I am the librarian in a relatively rural, 6-8 middle school with an approximate enrollment of 715 students. We run Accelerated Reader for all 6th graders, half of the 7th graders, and anyone else on a voluntary basis. Prior to this fall we ran AR 5.12 on the Macintosh platform. In November we switched over to the Web-based setup and I have not regretted it. Although the new Renaissance Place is designed to make management of all of the different programs easier, it still works quite well for just AR. Administration of the program is a little trickier until you learn it (much like anything else that is new or a change), but I have found the format to be very reliable. The only thing I'm a bit annoyed with is the fact that Renaissance Learning has not fully accomplished online Parent access to Accelerated Reader yet. I have been hounding them about this because it was one of the selling features for my Curriculum Director - to incorporate parental access and involvement. Please feel free to contact me with any specific questions. I would endorse the new setup but still have some reservations about the whole AR program itself. That's another discussion.
