Hi ... My associate, Herbert T. Brewer, has written an op-ed piece titled "Social Security: A Modest Proposal," available at http://www.umbachconsulting.com/whitepapers/SavingSocialSecurityAModestProposal.pdf . Some here may find it of value in seeing how awake are students who are inquiring into Social Security as a potential term paper or essay topic (perhaps for a government or economics class). It might even be fun to spring it on colleagues. Readers will probably realize it is illogical, but not quite be able to put their fingers on all the reasons why. It is only a thousand words (op-ed length) and uncluttered by statistics, graphs, charts, or references. I am bringing it to your attention in time for April Fools' Day. Herbert T. Brewer is, I should mention, the pen name I use for satire. (For those who wonder who I am and why I am posting here, I was a policy analyst for the California State Library's California Research Bureau for a decade, where among other topics I wrote on computer tech. in K-12 education. I currently write a column for Knowledge Quest. I am also the author of a notorious and surprisingly popular little piece on California's Velcro crop.)
