Here are the responses I received regarding my question about the appropriateness of Cosmo Girl, Daily Bread Inline Skate Magazine, and B-Mag Inline Skate Magazine for middle school. Thanks to all who responded. Personally, I won't order Cosmo Girl because of the nature of the articles. It depends on your philosophy. To me, the Media Center is not a book store or a newstand; it's an academic institution. I sent my list to Barbara Shapiro in response to her request a couple of days ago. If you find her address, she will forward you my list. ***************************************************************************************************************** cosmo girl is not appropriate for a MS library. There are other more apropriate choices for girls this age. Try Girl's Life instead. I am the parent of a 7th grader and I would not be happy to have her come home with Cosmo Girl. ***************************************************************************************************************** I'm familiar with Cosmo Girl and Daily Bread. I'd say neither is appropriate for middle school. Pick up a copy at your local book store and take a look . . . ***************************************************************************************************************** I'm not familiar with the skate magazines, but I would definitely avoid CosmoGirl. Even my 17 year old daughter, an avid fan of Seventeen, thinks Cosmo Girl is too sexy and sophisticated for her. ***************************************************************************************************************** I had to discontinue Cosmo Girl because it became too sexy for our grade 6-8 population. I now subscribe to Girls Life (GL) which has become more in-tune with the times. ***************************************************************************************************************** I started at the MS level last year and had to seriously revamp our periodicals. (We had a bunch of 'old lady' magazines!) Some titles I picked up that have been very popular: - Girls Discover (especially 6th grade girls) - Automobile magazine (mainly for the pictures I think, but it is used a lot) - Popular Science (we do have to pull out the occasional explicit ad from the back) Lori Loranger, LMS Ridgeview M.S.
