[LM_NET] digital camcorders

Dear LM_Netters,

I know this topic was recently covered but I need some clarification. Some years 
ago my school purchased a Sony digital camcorder that uses the 8mm tapes.  We use 
iMovie to edit and then send it back to the camera to transfer to a VHS tape.  The 
camera isn't working right and I received the go ahead to purchase a new sturdy 
one.  Now here's the problem as I see it; the new camcorders are using the DVDs but 
we don't have any DVD players at school.  Also can I still edit the DVD movies with 
iMovie?  Can I just plug the camcorder into the TV and record on a VHS tape?  I 
know this is defeating the purpose of the advanced technology. Does anyone have any 
recommendations for camcorders and for creating a set-up that isn't too 
complicated.  Let's face it, I'm the one who will have to do all video work if it's 
too complicated for the staff. One last thing, I was told to spend $500 to $900 for 
a package deal that includes everything.  Any information and ideas would be deeply 
appreciated as I don't have time to do comprehensive research as they want the 
order ASAP.
