RE: missing barcode on books

Connie.... this is why about 2 years ago I had my
student aides copy by hand the barcode number on the
inside of all the books... where the copy number used
to go.

Now when a barcode is MIA... it is a simple thing to
turn to the inside of the book to find it. It isn't a
time consuming thing to find from the shelf list (if
you still have one) except when there are multiple
copies.... then you have to check the shelf to see
what's there, the circulation list to see what's
checked out.... and because I many multiple copies, a
number of times there were multiple choices left....
for copies that were also MIA.

This method in the long run just makes my life so much
easier.

It really did NOT take that long.... each day I
assigned each student aide one bookshelf section of
shelving until it was completed.... this is a small
library so there were only about 50 sections. We only
worked on it every other day... ( I didn't want to
stress the student aids... and in truth I didn't want
to work on it everyday either.)

There is no hassle now when a barcode bites the dust.
