Our PTO is having a family reading night. They are calling it a "Read-in Picnic"
since children will be bringing in comfy blankets and pillows and will be
listening to stories and doing other reading activities. There will be a guest
reader for one half hour and I have been asked to select the titles for the guest
reader. There will be two time slots: one for grades K-2 and one for grades 3-5. I
need the most help with title suggestions for the 3-5 group. My ideas so far were
to have the reader read a very enticing first chapter of a book that will get them
all fired up and want to read more. A new title, one that the kids are less likely
to have read would work well. Then I thought I also have a few funny poems, a short
cheerleader type break (Rah-Rah for reading), and then more stories or poems. 30
minutes is a long time for a guest reader to read and keep the kids attention. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I promise to publish a HIT and later let you know
how thi!
 s turns out.

Has anyone had a similar activity at their school? If so, how did it go? We are
doing this in conjunction with our Spring Book Fair and will also have a balloon
artist and face painting outside the LMC. There is a Ronald MacDonald Reading
talk, a raffle, and reading rewards. Gulp! What did I get myself into? HELP!
