We also put the BC on the back lower corner vertically. However, our software (Mandarin M.3 v1.6) allows for printing barcodes and spine labels using label sets with 2 BC stickers. We use Highsmith #16890. Each printing give a large BC and spine tap for outsidne and a small BC sticker that we put on the inside back cover as backup for safety in case to outer BC is damaged. I put the actual barcode on the back, lower right corner. A second, smaller sticker with just the number goes on the front, generally in the upper left. The front sticker is placed where it doesn't obscure anything really important. Both stickers ALWAYS get covered with something—mylar jacket on books with jackets, wide tape on paperbacks (making sure that spine labels and barcode stickers are on before covering), or label protectors on hardcover books without jackets. I'd have to ask the previous librarian why she selected those two places, but I'm guessing it is because the number can be easily read when the book is pulled out slightly from either the front or the back, since both positions are near the spine. -- David Lininger, kb0zke, MS/HS librarian Hickory County R-1 Schools Urbana, MO 65767 417-993-4226 tss003 at tnp.more.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
