I started with authors and then moved to characters (sort of)....my oldest son is
named Nathaniel (for Nathaniel Hawthorne--who was my favorite author when I was in
college). My daughter is named Nachel (pronounced Nuh-shell--like Michelle with an
"N")--- the name was a compromise with my ex-husband who was / is a Star Trek
fan....Nichelle Nicoles (Lieutenant Uhura in the old Star Trek episodes) was the
only female character from that show, so rather than naming my baby "Uhura"....I
decided to change the spelling and name her Nachel (my daughter's middle name is
Charis--- which is pronounced like Sid "Charisse"--the dancer--so the child doesn't
have a chance with anyone pronouncing her name correctly....Nachel Charis?)

My daughter ended up going with her father to a Star Trek convention last year and
met Nichelle Nicoles there. Ms. Nicoles was selling her autographs and photos for
$30 each but when my daughter told her that she was named after her (Nachel--
Nichelle), Ms. Nicoles hugged her and asked that their pictures be taken
together--free of charge. It was a "bouncy-happy" time for my 15-year old to meet
her name-sake.

Subject: [LM_NET] TAR: Children Named for Characters in Books

Dear LM_NET:

The elementary librarian and I were discussing names. We both have children
named for characters from books. How many of you did that too. Please send
your child name's and the book/author it came from.

Letitia from The Amazing Adventures of Letitia Carberry by Mary Roberts
