I have just been reading a copy of the 1928 high school library standards and see that the recommended appropriation is listed as $1.00 for schools under 500 pupils. Using the handy dandy Inflation Calculator available at www.bls.gov, this translates into $11.30. That's a little below adequate by today's standards, even considering that this only accounted for books, periodicals, and supplies. Gail K.
