Thanks for all the responses. I am sending a Hit and I hope I am doing it
correct.

You'll be pleased with Follett's Destiny. We've had it for 3 years and love
it. The fact that it is browser based makes it accessible from any type of
Internet connected computer whether at home or school. Follett creates
consistent updates and is a company that is committed to school library
media centers. If you have specific questions, I would be glad to answer
them.

Have to tell you we spent almost nine months researching various systems.
Mandarin was one. It was a bit more complicated than we needed. Plus we
were looking for web based and Union catalog option. Follett was the only
one that really fit all the criteria we set up. Ask lot of questions and if
possible visit a school that has your potent ional system in use.

We have had Mandarin for 6 years. We are pleased. The tech support has
been good and quick responses. There are lots of report built into the
program. We had a trainer from Mandarin come for three days. He spent a day
and a half setting up the system on the server and then gave us a good
overview of the Mandarin system. We wish all three days would have been
with us but it was good to get it set up right on the server. We download
student pictures from the school photographers DVD that they sent the
schools after taking pictures.

Our entire district just switched from the regular Follett to Destiny this
March. Our main reason for this change was to allow students and parents
access from home and to allow the librarians to work from home. We have not
worked out all of the problems yet but it is still new. Thus far, all love
Destiny.

I used Mandarin for 2 years, and the district switched me to follett this
year, so have used both! I am a junior high. What grade level is this for,
and is it for you alone or a district? The reason I ask is that I think it
makes a difference. Also, are you a library 'purist' or not when it comes
to cataloging, etc. It makes a difference when selecting between these.
Let me know what your areas of concern are and I can try to answer them for
you. I wish I could take elements of each and blend them together, but that
will not happen.

When we selected new software, we asked for a trial of each brand. We set
them up on computers next to each other. We had a list of what we wanted
software to do. It was easy to compare the different brands that way.

what are you trying to accomplish --and have you looked at all systems on
the market

i have not seem mandarin but Destiny is supposed to be a centralized system
for an entire district -- has follett changed the way they are selling it?

if you are looking for a single school product - i would look at Athena or
Spectrum - they are both for single libraries

Target: If I have to choose between Mandarin M3 or Follett Destiny for a
Middle School Library, can any one suggest what would be the advantages of
one or disadvantages ?

It seems that I hear wonderful things about Follett but I heard that
Mandarin is as good

Many Thanks
