Thanks for all the responses to my query about print encyclopedias. I am
posting them below:

Enc. Americana online is part of the package from Grolier Online, so
maybe

Grolier is publishing the print version.

Americana is published by Grolier's Incorporated, as is Academic
American. Collier's sold their electronic rights to Microsoft. I just
recently read that it was doubtful that a print edition would come
again. My set is 1993. I guess it will be going out the door without a
replacement. I have World Book, Britannica, Americana, Compton's, and
New Standard. The last two are minimal but provide a lower level of
reading for some students who struggle. I just bought Americana this
year and will purchase a new World Book for next year. World Book and
Americana are used the most here.

Encyclopedia Americana is a Grolier (now owned by Scholastic) product.
See their web catalog at

There is a 2004 encyclopedia overview and review at

EncycUpdate.htm

I don't have much of a budget so I only updated my World Book. If I had
the funds, I would get two sets of World Book. Our county also
subscribes to Worldbookonline

At the high school level, I would say that it's essential to have an
Encyclpaedia Britannica. It's a much more adult-level encyclopedia and
covers topics more in-depth. It is arranged slightly differently than
other encyclopedias (it has a micropaedia and a macropaedia), but it's a
great investment. It also has a good 2-volume index.

We got our 2004 Americana, which was published by Grolier, from
Scholastic. We get a World Book every other time for the lower reading
level & Americana/Britannica the rest of the time for the good info.

According to my Grolier Rep, Academic is no longer available (it was my
favorite). It is what is now known as the Grolier Multimedia
Encyclopedia available from Grolier.com. I don't know about the rest.

Grolier is the listed publisher for all but World Book. They show
Academic American still in print, but I think when I bought ours I was
told it was the last print edition. Americana and Grolier seem to only
be available online. Looks like Collier's last set was published in
1997.

I loved Academic American but they don't make it anymore.

Academic American is no longer in print. Don't know about Collier's.
Americana is through Grolier, still available.

Don't think those three are available anymore. I just replaced my old
Academic American with Encyclopedia Americana. Next year I'm going to
replace my New Book of Knowledge, but I don't know what with. I got a
Collier's last year, and the WB will be replaced the year after next.

The new 2005 Americana is available from Grolier
http://www.grolier.com <http://www.grolier.com/>

I just received mine...go for it!

Grolier ceased publishing Academic American sometime prior to 2000. They
do still publish Encyclopedia Americana. I think they are distributed
through Scholastic now. Try either Grolier or Scholastic websites.
Collier's I don't have any information on for you, regrettably.
