A new report that looks at school libraries in Canada is online today. I posted a link to the report on ResourceShelf but thought it was deserving a direct post on the list. School Libraries--Canada Source: CBC http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/05/04/Library.html">School libraries underfunded: StatsCan "Poorly funded and understaffed school libraries are strikes against learning in the information age, said a Statistics Canada report released on Wednesday. Most Canadian schools have libraries, but few have full-time librarians or enough money each year to buy more than the equivalent of one set of encyclopedias, the report said." You can read the full text (PDF) of the report here. http://www.statcan.ca/english/research/81-595-MIE/81-595-MIE2005028.pdf A summary is also available. http://www.statcan.ca/Daily/English/050504/d050504a.htm cheers, gary -- Gary D.
