This is one of the issues we are dealing with on the ALA/YALSA/PPYA "Books that Don't Make You Blush" Committee. Nominations are closed for the June conference - but will begin again after the conference...we need time to catch up on all the titles we need to read. For my school -- it is relatively easy to deal with the problem. I don't buy the books that have cursing. I learned this early on - from the students- who complain about any four letter words found in any titles. They told me they don't want to see it....not the parents - which is interesting. Yes, that does mean we don't have some of the popular titles. I will inter library loan any, however, if a student requests them. A student just did research on rap and hip hop poetry. I felt rather dirty after reading several of the selections in the titles I found for him.
